Already a DGCKids volunteer?

One of our exciting initiatives is the Tandem Adventurers program. This program empowers children through the shared joy of cycling, fostering their confidence and independence while promoting physical fitness and fun.

What is Tandem Adventurers?

The Tandem Adventurers program is a unique recreational activity that pairs children with visual impairments with sighted Tandem Captains on tandem bicycles. This allows them to experience the joy and freedom of cycling in a safe and supportive environment.

The Benefits for DGCKids

Physical Fitness

Cycling is a fantastic way to promote health and wellness. It’s a fun, low-impact exercise that improves cardiovascular fitness, builds muscle strength, and boosts coordination.

Social Interaction

Tandem cycling encourages teamwork and friendship. Children learn to communicate and cooperate with their partners, fostering social skills and creating lasting bonds.

Confidence Building

Overcoming challenges and achieving goals on the tandem bikes gives children a sense of accomplishment that boosts their self-esteem and confidence.

Fun

Most importantly, tandem cycling is a lot of fun! It’s an adventure that brings joy and excitement, enriching the lives of our children.

“Tandem Adventurers has been a game-changer for my child. Seeing him laugh and cheer while riding is priceless. It’s more than just a bike ride; it’s about empowerment, friendship, and freedom.”

– A grateful DGCKids parent
