Our Work

At DGCKids, our Early Intervention services provide essential support for families navigating the early stages of a child’s visual impairment diagnosis. Our experts offer in-home visits to help parents understand their child’s unique developmental needs and implement effective strategies.

We empower parents through specialized training, coaching, and access to a network of allied health professionals, ensuring every family feels supported and equipped for their journey.

Our Buddy Builders playgroup offers additional connection, giving children a chance to explore and play together while parents build community with families on a similar journey.

Our Explorers program helps young children aged 3 and up transition from Early Intervention to our youth programs, preparing them for school and beyond. Meeting monthly for 90 minutes, Explorers engage in enriching activities like music therapy, games, sports, group interactions, book sharing, and crafts.

Each activity is thoughtfully designed to support children in reaching their developmental goals while fostering social connections and building confidence for the next stage of their journey.

These programs give school-age children and young adults who are blind or have a visual impairment a safe, supportive space to build friendships, learn new skills, and have fun. From local outings to cross-country Challenge Trips, kids create memories that last well beyond the day. Through monthly group activities and community outings, participants build independence, try new things, and find a real sense of belonging:

Explorers (ages 3–5)
Navigators (kindergarten–2nd grade)
Voyagers (3rd–5th grade)
Challengers (6th–8th grade)
Pathfinders (9th grade–high school)

Our Vision Screening program brings free, quick screenings out into the community, helping identify visual impairments in children as early as six months old. Conducted by a trained vision screener at schools, daycares, and community events, these screenings give families important information about their child’s eye health and connect them to resources if further care is needed. Early detection helps every child thrive and shine right from the start.
