This March, 13 DGCKids packed their bags, said goodbye to their families, and headed to Camp Lakewood for the annual Mimi Fishman Adventure Camp, and the two days that followed were full of memories and firsts.

Two Days of Adventure

Over March 7–8, campers took on some seriously exciting challenges:

🧗 Climbing a towering outdoor rock wall

🪁 Ziplining through the trees

🏹 Archery at an outdoor range

🪓 Axe throwing under the open sky

With 3 staff members and 1 volunteer, each camper had the support they needed to try new things, push their limits, and discover just how capable they are.

Moments That Will Last a Lifetime

The activities were amazing, but the real magic happened in the moments of courage.

One camper had attended the Mimi Fishman Adventure Camp many times before. Year after year, the zipline had felt like too big a leap. This year, something shifted. They took a deep breath, faced their fear, and rode the zipline for the very first time.

“I can’t wait to tell my mom I was so brave!” — 16-year-old DGCKid

For another camper, this trip marked a major milestone: her very first night ever spent away from her family. It wasn’t just an adventure camp; it was a moment of independence she’ll carry with her long after the weekend ended. She discovered something incredibly important: she could do it.

And one camper summed up the whole weekend perfectly:

“I had so much fun, I wish it was more than just one night.” — 13-year-old DGCKid

Thank You, Mimi Fishman Foundation

None of this would be possible without the generous support of the Mimi Fishman Foundation. The Adventure Camp is a beloved DGCKids tradition, and year after year, it delivers exactly what every child deserves — confidence, community, and memories that last a lifetime.

Thank you, David S. and the entire Mimi Fishman Foundation, for believing in our kids and giving them the space to be brave, to grow, and to surprise themselves. We are endlessly grateful!
