Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments

Who We Serve

Our vision is that children and families will be given the support and training they need so that children will develop to their potential, enjoy healthy relationships with family members and fully participate in their communities.

CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

There are two primary eligibility criteria for services from the Delta Gamma Center.

  1. Each child must have a visual impairment, as diagnosed by a physician. (Click here for Eligibility Criteria)
  2. Each family should reside in a 50 mile radius of the Center's office. (Click here for Service Area Map)

Even if you reside outside of the Delta Gamma Center's geographic boundaries, information is an important tool. By clicking here, you will find resources, links to other websites, some publications for family and friends and other practical information.

PROFESSIONALS AND THE COMMUNITY

Every child belongs to a family, and each family is a member of a community of people who are important in their life. Perhaps this includes extended family members, friends, colleagues, perhaps a church, neighborhood association, and so on.

For families receiving services at the Delta Gamma Center, education specialists can provide individual consultation to other professionals who are also providing services, day care center staff or other providers of service, at the family's request.

The Delta Gamma Center also provides low cost professional training opportunities to community providers. Called "Saturday Seminars," these seminars cover a wide range of topics pertaining to pediatric issues, and offer continuing education requirements for early intervention credentials and professional licensure.

The Delta Gamma Center has two other important volunteer community services available within the 50 mile geographic radius. Vision screeners annually screen approximately 3,000 preschool age children in the St. Louis Community.

Staff and volunteers visit area schools upon request to promote awareness of visual impairments as part of schools "ability awareness" programs. To arrange a visit, contact Muriel Smith, Development Director at msmith@dgckids.org or 314-776-1300.
