The annual Children's Vision Summit brings parents and professionals together to learn about resources and equipment to help children with visual impairments live independently and achieve academic/vocational success. (Meals are provided and lodging can be reimbursed for families living 50 miles or more from Jeff. City.

Two Exciting New Summer Opportunities for Teens

Two new summer teen programs are being offered by the Lighthouse for the Blind and St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

  • Project STEP - The Summer Technology and Employment Program is for students with visual impairments, ages 14-20, who intend to attend college or work after high school graduation. The program is being offered from June 12-June 30 at St. Louis Society and will focus on:
    • technology instruction, organizational skills, and career exploration
    • orientation and mobility skills and independence at home, school, or work
    • socialization and adjustment through mentoring
  • Summer Keys to Independent Living is an opportunity for students with visual impairments ages 14-20 who do NOT intend to attend college or work after high school graduation. This program is being offered from July 24-August 4 at St. Louis Society and will focus on:
    • independent daily living and orientation and mobility skills in a home setting
    • socialization, behavior in public, and adjustment
    • pre-vocational skills training with an emphasis on technology, work behaviors, and organizational skills
